Hi And Welcome!
As a woman with a severe disability, I know the truth behind the statement, "You can't judge a book by its cover." There are alot of things that people don't understand about disabilities. In light of this, there are at least four objectives for this website:
The First Objective:
By building this website, I hope to develop a sense of empowerment. Living with a disability can be quite frustrating. (You will read more about this in other areas of the website.) However, I am making the choice to channel my frustrations through this outlet of expression in order to do something positive.
The Second Objective
This website will hopefully help dissolve some of the misconceptions people with disabilities face. I plan on doing this not only by discussing those misconcepts but also by discussing the other aspects of my life to show that I and others are more than our disabilities.
The Third Objectve
Children and adults with disabilities need encouragement. Their families and loved ones need it too. This website can be a place for that.
The Fourth Objective
I happen to be a freelance writer, and I would like to showcase some of my work. If you like my writing and would like to discuss potential projects with me, (Jody Michele Powers), let me know by filling out the Contact Info Page.
(Note: my maiden name was Courtney.)
I hope That you enjoy this site and that You will take away something of worth!
please note:
This website does not intent to represent the entire disability community. No one website or no one person can possibly do that. Just like other communities, the disability community has great diversity with many different perspectives. The experiences, views, and advice given here are just a sample of that diversity.
