beyond the cp

As you have read, I have many physical limitations due to my cerebral palsy. However, they don't have to keep me from living my life. Many people with disabilities have this attitude. Therefore, there is no need to automatically pity people with disabilities.

These are some facts about me that may surprise some of you:

* I am married to a wonderful man of God.

* I help with homeschooling at my church once a week.

*I graduated from a regular public high school with a Honors Diplomat. With a GPA of 3.8 out of a possible 4.0, I was ranked 6'th out of 134.

*I graduated from Ball State University with a BS in sociology, along with three minors. My minors were in political science, religious studies, and interpersonal relations. I accomplished this within 4 years with a GPA of 3.5.

*I have never passed up an adventure! I have ridden roller coasters and have gone reversed bungee jumping. I have played in the ocean while visiting Florida. I have even waterskiied several times. (I was able to do all of this thanks to adaptive equipment and having wonderful friends!)

*Despite my speech impairment, I have done about a hundred speaking engagements on disability awareness. The largest audience I have spoken to numbered 1800.

*I worked for a year as a paid intern for a Christian Ministry.

*I have lived independently-from my family- for the past 11 years. (Wow, am I really in my early 30's?)

*I have enjoyed dating both men with and without disabilities.

 I enjoy swimming.

*I enjoy worshiping my Lord and Best Friend Jesus Christ. (to learn more about Jesus, go to the bottom of this page.)

* I have many positive characteristics. I'm creative, funny, insightful, adventurous, and charming.

Okay! Now that you are begining to understand that I am pretty cool, don't think I am some sort of a "superperson!". Even though it is true that people with disabilities don't need pity, it is also true that we don't need to be placed upon pedestals. Just like every person on the face of the earth, we are flawed. We are not "God's special little angels". To help illustrate this, I will list some of my flaws:

* I want to be the center of attention whenever I can be.

*I am known to pout when I don't get my way.

*I hide emotions and thoughts because I want to seem like I have it all together..

*I procrastinate way, way too much.

*I easily turn from my First Love- Jesus- to chase idols.

I just listed six areas that I need growth in. My purpose in this isn't to beat myself up but to show I ain't no "superhuman!"

I have cerebral palsy, and I'm trying to live my life to the fullest possible. Isn't that what all of us are trying to do?

  Jesus

Every man and woman were made to be with God and were made in His Image. The problem came when we decided to follow our own ways. This caused a gaint divide between us and God. God wanted us wholly back, the way we were created to be. That is why He sent His Son Jesus to bridge the gap.

Because of Jesus, I'm going to Heaven. Because of Jesus, I can deal with my disabilities and everything that is tough in my life. Because of Jesus, I can be me. Because of Jesus, Satan has no power over my life. Because of Jesus, I can love. Because of Jesus, I can live in the present and not the past.

My husband Jayson is my soulmate, but Jesus is the True Lover of my soul. He is my best Friend and my King.

My friend, don't you feel it? Isn't God stirring up something inside of you? He wants you to know Him. I know it's scary, but Jesus is good. He wants to give you hope, and He wants an opportunity to show you that He is worthy to be worshipped by you.

Again, Jesus Christ is my Best Friend. He is always there for me. He protects and loves me like no other.I know He is good and that is why my desire is to worship Him. If you are curious about Jesus, ask Him to show His goodness, and let me know what happens, ok? (Use the Contact Form.)
